COSME Tech 2014, Asia’s leading exhibition featuring cosmetic ingredients, OEM and packaging, closed on October 22nd, and organizers say it was a huge success – expanding in scale by 50% from last year, and welcoming over 20k visitors.

COSME Tech is organized by Reed Exhibitions Japan, and is co-located with COSME Tokyo, Japan’s largest cosmetics trade show. Organizers plan to grow both shows, with the goal of becoming a significant Asian hub of the cosmetics industry.

The number of international exhibitors doubled from 2013, to 144 – from both Europe and the U.S. The Australian company Marinova exhibited in the section named, Ingredients Zone, and commented:

We met many new customers such as manufacturers, distributors…, and so on. It’s been really busy, everyday, right to the end of the show., We got lots of new contacts. We are planning on coming back next year.”

Top executives from Shiseido, Estee Lauder, AmorePacific, L’Oreal, and many more, spoke at the conference sessions, which were attended by 3,155 visitors.

The keynote address attracted the largest crowd, and was given by Shigekazu Sugiyama, corporate officer / Japan Chief Marketing Officer, Shiseido; and Akira Yokozeki, executive director, Clinique & Origins Global Product Development, The Estee Lauder Companies.

The Container/Packaging Zone section of COSME Tech featured all the major players in Japan, plus some overseas manufacturers. Containers featuring luxe materials and elaborate designs were on display, including a range of printing technolgies and decorating techniques.

A few of the exhibiting suppliers from Asia included: Glasel, Japan’s top cosmetic container manufactuer, featured its full range of luxe packaging options; Jutec featured containers in a wide range of colors; and Tsujikawa, which showed its 3D modeling expertise.

By the Numbers

The two co-located shows this year, COSME Tech / COSME Tokyo, attracted:

  • 542 exhibitors, up from 368 in 2013
  • 37 exhibiting countries/regions, up from 15 in 2013
  • 144 international exhibitors, up from 73 in 2013
  • 20,754 visitors, up from 20,638 in 2013
  • 3,155 attendees to the Conference, up from 2,546 attendees in 2013
Takuya Ishimoto, show director, COSME Tokyo/COSME Tech, says that these numbers are actual numbers – not “inflated.”

Ishimoto explained that visitor registration numbers are strictly based on the following:
  • One business card submitted at the on-site registration counter is counted as one visitior.
  • Once registered, a visitor is only counted once, no matter how many times and days they enter the exhibition.
  • Counting the visitors each time they pass through the entrance is regarded as inflation of the figures, and this counting method is prohibited.

Save the Date for 2015

COSME Tech / COSME Tokyo will be held again January 20-22, 2016, at Tokyo Big Sight – and most of the exhibitor space is already booked.
